Sam Shelstad lives in Toronto, Ontario. His second novel, The Cobra and the Key, was published in October of 2023 by Brindle & Glass. He is the author of the novel Citizens of Light (Brindle & Glass, 2022), which won the 2023 Crime Writers of Canada Best Crime First Novel Award, and short story collection Cop House (Nightwood Editions, 2017). His stories have appeared in The Walrus, The New Quarterly, Joyland, Prism International, Carousel, The Puritan, Grain, The Fiddlehead, The Feathertale Review, The Dalhousie Review, Taddle Creek, and The Rusty Toque. He was longlisted for the CBC Short Story Prize, a runner up for the Thomas Morton Memorial Prize, and a finalist for a National Magazine Award. His work was featured in Joyland’s “best of” anthology, Retro 4. He contributes to McSweeney’s Internet Tendency.
